Are you interested in postgraduate research studies in Germany? The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is now accepting open applications for its short-term research grants 2022-2023. ?
Highly qualified doctoral students and young scientists who, at the time the funded research begins, have a master’s or diploma degree, in exceptional cases a maximum of a bachelor’s degree, or have already completed a doctorate (post-doc).
Doctoral students who complete their entire doctorate at a German university are not eligible to apply.

What can be financed?

A research project or scientific further training at a state or state-recognized university or a non-university research institution in Germany, which is carried out in coordination with a scientific supervisor in Germany.

The following also applies: scholarships for development-related postgraduate courses (EPOS) from the DAAD [funded]

Duration of funding

  • From one month to a maximum of six months; A selection committee decides on the duration of the funding and depends on the respective project and the workload of the applicant.
  • The grant is not renewable.

DAAD short-term research grants Value

  • Monthly installments of

  • Health, accident and civil liability insurance benefits
  • Subsidy for travel expenses

Application process: The application process takes place online via the DAAD portal.You can access the DAAD portal by clicking on “Application portal” at the bottom of the page. Here you will find an online application form where you can process your application data.

Language skills

The required language level depends on the desired course and subject: In the humanities, social sciences and law, at least good knowledge of German is usually expected. For natural sciences and engineering, proof of good English language skills can also be accepted if English is spoken at the host institute. Application Requirement 

Certificates, proof of credits, certifications and translations is also scanned in non-certified type and uploaded to the DAAD portal. The DAAD reserves the proper to request certified copies of the documents.
